A new herbal medicine can be an easy fix for your depression, according to an article in Axios.
According to a new study, the treatment was as effective as a prescription antidepressant in treating depressive symptoms.
“We found that using herbal remedies as part of an antidepressant regimen could be beneficial for some patients with depression, especially in older adults, and could potentially prevent relapse,” Dr. Daniela Peralta, lead author of the study and associate professor at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine, said in a statement.
“Our results suggest that the combination of natural and herbal therapies may be effective in the treatment of depression.”
In addition to the study, researchers published a new paper in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, in which they show that a small group of patients who received the herbal remedies also showed improved mood and reduced anxiety.
According to the American Psychiatric Association, depression is one of the leading causes of disability and cost the U.S. economy over $1 trillion each year.
It can cause a range of symptoms from fatigue to loss of interest in activities.
